Interview with Beth Nielsen Chapman

On grief, mortality and the power of music to heal

Part of Life was delighted to catch an inspiring hour with singer, songwriter, speaker, teacher and Nashville icon, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, on the Frome leg of her epic UK tour.

Touring as part of the launch of her latest album Crazy Town, Beth’s soulful melodies have always resonated with the UK public, and her new single Walking to Heaven is sure to resonate with anyone bereaved or facing death. This new single is only one of a number of her poetic tributes to the process of grieving and healing.

It is clear from her honesty about the loss of her husband to cancer, facing single parenthood, her own breast cancer diagnosis and the support and death of her beloved friend Olivia Newton John, that her lived experience feeds her musical creativity. Her stories and delivery illustrate the power of music to heal and reveal how her resilience has been fueled through creativity.
