Lung disease and end of life: take part in research
Nurse and PhD student, Kathy Rogers, is currently exploring the experiences of caregivers who looked after someone who died with a respiratory disease with the University of the West of England, Bristol.
In our latest blog, Kathy tells us why she is studying this important topic and how you can get involved in her research.
The research study
People living with poor health often rely on family and friends for support and people with certain conditions do not always have access to specialist care and this can make life harder for everyone.
I hope to understand what life is like for caregivers as their relative or friend is living with, and dying with, respiratory disease in the hope of improving support. We hope that a greater understanding of this topic will lead to improved support for family and friends, whose help is so important to patients.
How to get involved
I am inviting people with relevant experience to participate in a research study. This involves taking part in an online interview to talk about experiences.
Anyone over 18 years old who looked after someone who died with respiratory disease can take part. They would need to be will to share their experiences, good and bad, of the last year of their relative or friend’s life. The conditions included in this study are COPD, interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis. The project was granted ethical approval by UWER Bristol College Research Ethics Committee.
Please email me at kathy.rogers@uwe.ac.uk or call 0117 328 7335 for more information on the research study. I would love to hear from you and there is no obligation to take part.
